On March 25, 2020, the City of Long Beach released a press release announcing an emergency ordinance temporarily halting all evictions in the City due to nonpayment for those affected by COVID-19.  This applies to residential and commercial leases. The ordinance is retroactive back to March 4, 2020 when Governor Newsom declared a State of Emergency in California, and lasts through May 31, 2020.

To be eligible you must:

– Notify your landlord that rent will not be paid on time.

– You must provide proof of a reduction in income, loss of work, or out-of-pocket medical expenses due to COVID-19.

It’s important to note that any missed lease payments will have to be paid back. This is not forgiveness of payments due. Those impacted will  have until November 30, 2020 to pay back the missed payments, and no late fees will be allowed. For the full press release click here.
