The statewide moratorium enacted by the California Judicial Counsel is set to end at midnight on September 1, 2020. The moratorium prevented the issuance of a new summons for any new unlawful detainer lawsuit. This stopped evictions statewide. With the new vote of the Judicial Council last week, courts will now be able to move forward with evictions. Restrictions still apply, however, depending on where your property is located. Different cities and counties have their own moratoriums which could still prevent or stall evictions.  Each jurisdiction must now be researched before beginning the eviction process.
