Legal Assistant – Civil Litigation, Irvine

TLD Law has an immediate opening in our Irvine office for a Legal Assistant in our civil litigation department. The Legal Assistant would work primarily with one litigation attorney and paralegal staff in the employment law department. The Legal Assistant must have a minimum of 10-15 years of civil litigation experience with matters before California State and Federal Courts and employment law administrative agencies. Experience supporting attorneys through Trial is a requirement. The ideal candidate for this position is highly organized, has a strong work ethic and attention to detail, exceptional calendaring, filing, and problem-solving skills, and is comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Verbal and written communication with clients, witnesses, lawyers, and paralegals (within the firm and outside), outside vendors to schedule interviews, meetings, and depositions.
  • Update case workflow, with detailed attention to calendaring.
  • Assist with client intake process; coordinate appointments.
  • Organizes cases by establishing and organizing files; updating attorney calendars; expediting requirements and deadlines; documenting actions.
  • Support attorneys with drafting complaints and discovery; preparing and filing discovery requests; assisting attorneys in preparing responses to opposing counsel; and generating status reports.
  • Support litigation attorneys in drafting pleadings, monitoring and obtaining discovery responses, and contributing information to the team case review.
  • Support Trial proceedings by organizing evidence and exhibits, taking notes, scheduling witnesses, and ensuring that witnesses arrive as expected.
  • Research relevant laws, regulations, and legal articles.
  • Gather and arrange evidence and other legal documents for attorney review and case preparation.
  • Draft correspondence and legal documents at the attorney’s direction.
  • Get affidavits and other formal statements that may be used as evidence in Court.
  • E-filing pleadings, discovery, and other legal documents with the Court, administrative agencies, and/or opposing counsel.
  • Administrative duties may include: scanning, copying, answering and directing phone calls, and greeting clients.

Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent certification
  • Ability to type 70+ words per minute
  • Familiarity with MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and remote meeting platforms
  • Familiarity with docketing programs (preferably familiarity withthe  CoreRelate system)
  • Experience with document management (preferably NetDocuments)
  • Able to take direction and work independently with little or no supervision
  • 10-15 years of experience as a legal assistant in civil litigation (preferably employment law)
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented

Job Type: Full-time

Salary Range: $40.00 – $45.00 per hour
