In Memory of Douglas D. Cicione

“Living fully, loving deeply & riding every wave”

March 28, 1951 – August 7, 2026

TLD Law honors the life and legacy of Douglas D. Cicione, a respected attorney, trusted colleague, generous friend, and valued member of the Orange County legal community.

Doug served as Of Counsel at TLD Law from 2020 to 2023, bringing to the firm the knowledge and perspective of a distinguished legal career spanning nearly five decades.

A Certified Specialist in both Taxation Law and Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, Doug advised clients on complex tax, estate planning, probate, corporate, and real estate matters. But his professional legacy was defined by more than technical expertise. Doug practiced law with integrity, careful judgment, and a deep sense of responsibility to the people who placed their trust in him. Many of his client relationships lasted for decades, with clients often becoming friends.

At TLD Law, we were fortunate to experience those qualities firsthand, and we are deeply grateful for Doug’s years as a valued colleague whose experience, perspective, and commitment enriched our firm, our clients, and the broader Orange County legal community.

From New York to California

Doug was born in Queens, New York, and raised on Long Island. After graduating from Chaminade High School, he attended St. Lawrence University, graduating summa cum laude with highest distinction in Economics. He then headed west to Stanford, earning both his J.D. and M.B.A. in 1977, followed by an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1984.

Stanford brought Doug to California, but the California lifestyle convinced him to stay. He found sunshine, the Pacific Ocean, surfing, and a place that would become home.

A Life Lived Fully

Outside the office, Doug had no shortage of passions. He loved surfing and the ocean, skiing, golf, tennis, financial markets, cooking, music, and a good James Bond film. He was endlessly curious and approached his interests much as he approached his work—with enthusiasm, discipline, and a desire to understand and master whatever captured his attention.

The ocean held an especially important place in Doug’s life. Dana Point became one of his defining places, and Doug gave back to the community he loved through his service on the Board of Directors and Advisory Board of the Ocean Institute. There, he supported the organization’s work in marine education, environmental stewardship, and inspiring future generations to appreciate and protect our oceans.

For those wishing to honor Doug’s memory, a gift to the Ocean Institute is a meaningful way to continue supporting one of his lifelong passions.
