On May 6, 2012, Tredway Lumsdaine & Doyle LLP (TLD) attended the Downey Family YMCA event honoring Robert “Bob” and Jean Brazelton, and Dr. Mary Stauffer.
Bob Brazelton joined the TLD family in the early 1970’s where he was a partner for 20 years. He was a successful attorney and a great mentor that taught professionalism. When he was not in the office working as an attorney, he dedicated his time to community service. He formed the Downey Homeowners’ Association, which drafted the Downey City Charter. He also served two terms on both the Downey Planning Commission and the City Council where he served as Mayor, was President of the Los Amigos Kiwanis Club, and was a member of the Board of the Downey Community Hospital Foundation. In addition, he was involved in many charities and supported community events. To this very day, TLD continues his tradition of public service, charitable giving and professionalism.
Jean Brazelton was a very professional woman while raising six children, making her a role model for many women today. She founded the Great Books program, served as commissioner for the Downey Parks and Recreation Commission, coached basketball for her daughter’s team, and was honored with “Women of Distinction” by the Downey Soroptimist Club. Bob and Jean’s commitment and leadership has enriched the City of Downey for over 50 years.
Dr. Mary Stauffer has worked in the medical field for 63 years. She retired from her medical practice at the age of 93 but continues working as CEO and COO of her Foundation where she invests in the education of students in the City of Downey. She is a long time member of the Downey Rotary Club, Assistance League of Downey, and Gangs Out of Downey. Due to Dr. Stauffer’s commitment to community service, she has received many awards throughout her career. Some noteworthy ones are “Women of Distinction” from Soroptimist International, 1998 “Woman of the Year” from State Senator Betty Karnette, 2010 California Legislature “Woman of the Year” from State Assemblyman Hector DeLaTorre, and in 2011 the “City of Downey Proclamation” – Dr. Mary Stauffer Day.
